Installing Fish Finder Transducer in a kayak is important. By adding this stuff, you not only save your time in fishing, but also can locate, and predict what fish you want to catch. Otherwise, fishing without using this equipment is like fishing in the dark.
Fish finder transducer is usually placed in kayak manually. There is no ports to apply them under the kayak. That is why, you have to create it by yourself.
Before starting, it is better for you to know what you should prepare before installing it correctly. Basically, there are two types of tools you need to install. First one is the transducer pad in front of the hull of kayak.. The second part is the LCD detector on the kayak.
In this article, the fish finder used is a Garmin Fish finder 300C. We need the the mount base to place it inside the kayak body.
Steps How to Install
1. Prepare the Transducer Pads
Transducer pad is for placing the RAM mounting for Garmin. The first step is preparing it. You can use your home made one or buy it on online store with a keyword “transducer pad”. It is to hold the RAM and ensure the transducer is ion stable position while kayak is moving. Make sure you are mounting the pads on the plain side of the kayak hull
2. Prepare the Silicon to Paste
The transducer pad as well as the RAM mount placed on the kayak hull by pasting them. Therefore, you will need something called ‘Marine Goop’. This silicon can paste the transducer and the RAM strongly. However, you have to wait till 6 hours to let the silicon dry.
3. Apply the RAM Mount into the Transducer Pad
The next part is installing the RAM. To install it, you need to place enough silicon on it. After installing it, you have to add an additional tight tape to ensure the RAM is pasted strongly. Don’t push it too much! It can break the dry silicon and you can not mount it correctly.
4. Make the Small Hole for Placing Wire
The small hole placed on the kayak to place the wire connected to the sonar transmitter below the kayak. This hole is located around the water level. Therefore, you should make sure the hole is not too big. Keep the hole-diameter around ½ inches, so you can place the screw correctly. You can paste the screw using the silicon.
5. Apply RAM arm
After making this hole to connect the wire from the transducer to sonar below the kayak. Now you can place the RAM arm in front of the kayak. The reason why it placed here is when you need to lower the position of the transducer, you can do it right away in front of you.
6. Apply Sonar Transmitter
Use the hole you made previously to place the transducer wires and finish it by placing the transmitter. It is also pasted using the silicon and make sure you let it dry perfectly to avoid bubbles created from the water density.
7. The Last Part
The last thing you should do is ensuring that all pasted correctly and strong enough while kayak is moving. By placing the transmitter below the kayak, you should understand the water deepness to make sure there is no damage happen to your kayak hull.
Finally
Transducer may work correctly when you mount every part at the right position. By mounting them correctly, you have ensured that you can use it easily and effectively. Of, course you should pay attention to the silicon dryness.
The right position of the transducer is important and the best one is in front of the kayak. The reason is you can understand where the fish are now and catch them at the right position. Plus, you do not need to find another person to let you know the fish position in the water.
Finally, you can now go fishing more effectively. As a conclusion, you can buy the parts of mounting the transducer correctly, but you can also make the pads by yourself. However, the most important thing to place the transducer is ensure it cannot be damaged by rocks under the water, and you can sit them down on the place you can always watch at
